Keeping Occupied

Gosh it's been a scary couple of days. I did a lot of work in the studio getting it ready for the next big project. I'll be working on the Zebras tutorial just as soon as I finish getting the backing ready for the Partly Sunny quilt. Although I may take a small side trip and prepare tutorials on the Asterisk flowers and the Seminole Dots. Lord knows we need something positive to keep ourselves occupied.

Here is my quarantine stock. I can't tell you how glad I am that I got this done last week. When I was at the grocery store after work last night I was shocked to see so many empty shelves. No bananas, spaghetti sauce, pasta, rice, canned meat of all kinds, no beans, no canned or frozen vegetables, hardly any butter or eggs, no bread, no toilet paper or facial tissues. Cold medicines, pain killers and other drugs were in short supply.

OK, back to the good stuff. I'm going to make a blue Jealousy quilt as the how-to for the zebras tutorial. Here are the blues I pulled from my stash. I also have more fabric on order. This will be exciting.

Keep cutting and sewing. We don't have to buy in to the mania. If I don't keep working, I get sucked into the craziness. When I create something, it builds something concrete.

I went on a grocery run yesterday and the only things in short supply were the sanitizer wipes at all stores, and toilet paper at WM and farm store (grocery had some) and dry milk powder at grocery. Otherwise, shelves seemed fairly normally filled. I suspect people here (eastern Iowa) will panic and start emptying more shelves when they see everything cleared off shelves in other locations though. Dark humor of the situation is seeing twitter posts on the news about Trader Joe's cleared shelves, except for some items - now they now what NOT to continue stocking.

I read your stash & fabric buying post from 2015. One thing I didn't see covered is replacement schedule - when you use up fabrics from a color (let's say blues), do you go on a mission to replace the blues immediately, or do you wait until you need blues and then go shopping? Or do you keep in mind you need blues and buy as you find good ones? Asking as I seem to be a "oh pretty" buyer of fabrics with no real plan, other than red/white/blue for QOV. Or I go through spells of buying types, like batiks, Kaffe Fassett, civil war or 30s repro, etc. I'm not sure if I like too many types of quilts, or if I don't know what I really love yet.

And what are your favorite sources?

I love the UFO fabric. Suits what's going on at the moment. Out of this world. I too went to the store for a few canned goods and felt like I was on a movie set

Stay healthy and sane. Turn off the TV and engage in other activity. Sewing, reading, TV, crochet.

If nice, get outside, go for a walk and get some fresh air.

The store I usually shop in was stocked ok on Thursday. Will see how it is on my next visit. Enough supplies for Ducky and me.

Loving the blues you are gathering. I spent much of yesterday tidying the studio, replacing pulled out fabrics on the shelves, making notes for projects, doing planning sketches for others, and clearing the decks to move beyond the 70s quilt quilting while my shoulder/neck recover. We did our major stocking up over the past 2-3 weeks and feel good about what is on hand. The madness in the store the last time we were there was palpable and rather scary. Glad I can stay away from that now unless there are surgical strikes for specific items.
