Lynne Tyler Quilts ~ 2012

The Four Seasons, 2012

It's funny how things work out. I made this quilt as a sample for a class on free pieced houses. I thought it would be boring to make a quilt with row after row of different houses, so I tried to think of how to make the quilt different.

Two years earlier, in 2010, I made this little quilt as part of Doll Quilt Swap 10. It's about 22" x 25" and now lives in Nebraska. I thought a quilt of Four Seasons would make an interesting sample quilt. So I took my inspiration from the little quilt and made a four seasons quilt, with a few fun touches. Each panel of the bigger Four Seasons quilt has at least one cat hiding somewhere. I added a porch to the summer house, and put a hammock between two trees. Later this quilt inspired my friend Julie Sefton to make her See Rock City quilt of twelve barns to represent the twelve months of the year in Tennessee.

Font Factory, 2012
This quilt doesn't make any sense at all if you just see it hanging somewhere. I made it as a sample for my class on free-pieced letters. I arranged the letters in groups according to how they are most efficiently constructed.
