It's in the Stash!

Now that I have cut up the backing for the Partly Sunny quilt, I need to add some fabric to what's left to make a backing for it.

Look what I found in my stash. I only have a yard of it, so I am going to need something else...

This is where investing in your stash pays dividends. I will use the grey leaves to fill out the extra space I need.

I needed two WOF (width of fabric) pieces to fit across the top of the quilt, so naturally I matched the print as best I could. (Because this is an example where just sewing two pieces together haphazardly would be SO WRONG.)

The quilt (on the left) is lying on top of the backing (at right.) Now, when the top edge of the quilt gets folded over for any reason, those grey and yellow flowers will interact with the HST's on the front.

You all know that's no accident, right?

HOW did you ever guess?

Never an accident in YOUR studio -- never. That print you discovered is perfect for the upper/lower edges of the back. SO great.

How wonderful to have fabrics on hand to combine to make a backing. I went back to read your post about your stash and how you buy fabrics. I see the grey leaf fabric for sure was in the stash back then (2015), so it's *sort* of an accident - how did you know this quilt top was in your future? Yet it's not an accident you fell in love with what Julie made - those colors are in your stash.
