As for the quilt, I have it on good authority that my son makes his bed every morning in order to display this beauty.
This is the same "Slashed Squares" design I have used before, as shown in this tutorial, as well as the quilt in yesterday's post.
This quilt is going into a neutral colored room that faces North. The color in the room is provided by colorful paintings that hang on the walls. I wanted this quilt to be more reminiscent of summer colors as well as represent my friend's favorites.
We went back and forth, about how big a bag should be. I remembered seeing some really really fat knitting needles once, and I thought, well, if you're going to store ALL your knitting needles in one bag, it would have to be, well, BIG!
So THIS bag is for knitting needles. It is big; the bag itself is 14-1/2" by 3" wide and 3" deep. I'm calling it The Buxom Bag.
I don't have any knitting needles, but I do have artist's oil painting brushes, so I put some brushes in the bag. I was amazed at how many I could stuff into it.
Here's the whole thing. I said I loved bright colors, wonky and black and white. Isn't it gorgeous? It's got a wonky house in the middle, and black and white checkerboards - my favorite!
It's AWESOME!
I've finished four more, but I watched a lot of Tennis. I've got about a dozen in various stages of completion. My Mother has already selected her favorite.
I really like this one...
They are about 9" long (without the loops) and 2" high by 2" wide. Check out yesterday's post for more pictures.
The inside is that plastic waterproof material, so the little bag is good for things like toothbrushes, or even hairbrushes, combs, etc, makeup or even a knife, fork and spoon; anything you want to keep clean.
I liked this size so much I made a few after dinner.
I think they'd make terrific gifts for my coworkers.
I bet I could stuff a dozen cookies in these (in a plastic bag, of course.) Or maybe some chocolate dipped pretzel sticks.
I might even sell these.
I've told you already how much I love bags, boxes and other types of containers. I decided to make a longer variation of this little bag. I had an idea of the size, but I'm not always good with numbers, so I decided to do a "mock up." But I always use fairly decent fabric in case the mock up turns out OK.
Fortunately, I caught this mistake, above, before I started stitching. Those little loops would have been useless on the -inside- the bag.
This is the end.
This is the inside.
This is what I made the bag to hold.
My cat Millie occasionally deigns to sit beside me. Here she is watching me handsew the binding on the Sunshine Quilt. Millie was a rescue cat, and she was feral, so she does NOT like to be handled. I've had her three years and I still can't pick her up, so when she decides to sit near me, it's a nice thing.
I've been watching the US Open Tennis Tournament on television. I've made good progress on binding the Sunshine Quilt while watching. I've turned three corners, and have two sides complete. (I can't sew anywhere near two inches a minute any more.)
I've finished two corners and one side.
