More Pink Triangles

I've been cutting more pink and light long triangles, and putting them up on the design wall. Do not be fooled. This quilt will NOT be as predictable as what you are seeing now.

~ ~ ~

Judy, I have no magic fix for the raveling threads when fabric is washed. I keep a pair of scissors near the washer and generally spend 20 minutes cutting fabric threads away when I move the just washed fabrics from the washer to the dryer. ONE THING I DO KNOW... When I get fabric from the Portsmouth Fabric Company I never have any trouble. They TEAR their fabric, so there are hardly and loose threads to give me grief. (They also have the largest selection of Kaffe fabrics I have ever seen.)

Fussy Cutting Pink

I showed you these big diamonds yesterday. Do you think I just slap the template down on the fabric and cut around it?

Hell no. With a print with so much potential as this, it's really worth moving the template around to take advantage of all the possibilities the print has to offer.

Swimming in Pink!

I have had SO MUCH FUN choosing PINK fabrics.

 Here are some dark pinks.

Hre are some light pinks

Here are a couple of big prints I'll use for the giant diamonds, and a dark print I'll use for the tiny diamonds.

These I pulled from my stash.

I wanted some dusky pinks, so I got these.

I picked up these from Quilted Threads on Saturday. I'll use the two on the left as giant diamonds.

I used this print in the Wavelength Quilt and I'm using it again in the Pink quilt.

I already had the two big prints in the middle in my stash.  As you can see I already started cutting out the big diamonds.

When I ordered this panel I had no idea it would be THIS big.

Pink, Pink, Pink!

Oh what a wonderful weekend! I traded in my car for a nicer, spiffier model, and the weather was so nice I was able to spend some time cleaning up in the garden.

It's a big deal because I didn't have enough time to clean up the yard before winter came. I have some plans for the front, but not much because I want to see what's there first.

What really got me pumped was finally being able to paint the doors pink.

This is the back door. As you can see it was brick red, so it will probably need at least three coats of paint.
I think it's going to look so good when it's PINK!

The front door was also brick red, and will need three coats as well.

I'll be painting the final coats of paint on this door with a paint roller. You can see the pink letters over on the right.

The side door is textured metal. This is where the little welcome quilt will hang.

I am really happy with the side door. I think it's going to look terrific when it is finished.  See the blue mat? When I bought it, I thought I was going to paint the door blue. Oh well. Most people will never notice, and it will look good anyway.

Pink Letters

I think the letters look great in pink. I am hoping to be able to hang them up on the house this weekend (when it stops raining!)  When my dad and I were hanging the homosote on the walls in the studio last weekend he asked me, "So, have you painted the front door yet?"  He laughed while he said it, because he knew perfectly well I'd been too busy to do it.

btw, today is my 26th anniversary of working at my company! Wow!

Of Pink Letters, No Squeaks and Leaf Blowing

I painted the first coat of pink on the sign letters. As you can see, the letters from the sign aren't without wear. They are old and I have to be careful when I handle them.

Got the L done.

I think these will look great.  I hope these don't need THREE coats, but if that's what they need, then that's what I'll do.

I'm hoping to sit and sew a bit tomorrow. I deserve a bit of a break. I've sorted out the last of the bins, organized the closet in the bathroom and put away all the tools and cleaning supplies. I've also oiled all the squeaky hinges all around the house.

Yesterday's big task was cleaning the leaves out of the gutters.  Wet leaves clog gutters, and then wreak havoc on your roof if allowed to stay.  So I got out the ladder and the leaf blower and blew the leaves out of the gutters alongside the house. The blower could clear out about four or five feet of the gutter, then I'd have to move the ladder, climb up again, blow the leaves out, and then do that all around the house. To say I'm a bit sore is an understatement. I loved the leaf blower. Watching it blow leaves wherever I wanted them to go, I couldn't help but think how much fun it was to use.

Before and After

I have a Before and After for you. It's really another post about how it's OK to change your mind when you get a better idea.

My "new" house is a kind of a creamy khaki color, but not so green.  Yes, it's dull, but the co-op limits the colors of the houses to white or "neutrals."  Doesn't bother me.

I bought a front door mat in a lovely navy blue, like the "Nocturnal Sea" in bottom blue color chip. I thought I would paint the front door, and I didn't want it that dark, so I picked the "Neptune Blue". I knew it would be a very pleasing color combination.

While I waited for the paint to be shaken after it was mixed, I looked around, and saw this flyer.

I didn't even need to open the flyer, because what hit me was that can of magenta paint at the very top.

I knew instantly the magenta / hot pink would ALSO look terrific. It would be a show-stopper for sure, but when you get a BETTER idea, you have to go for it.

So I went back and got a can of Hot Pink

Oh, I can't wait!!!
