Green Deco is a Flimsy!

I've been sewing the green deco blocks together over the last few days.

The Green Deco quilt is now a flimsy. It is brighter and a bit lighter than these photos show. I am really happy with it.

Then I cleared my work table and set out the Kangamangus quilt and added the binding to it. This photo shows the gorgeous quilting. I quite love it.

After I added the binding, I turned it over to the front and pinned it in place. It's supposed to be very hot here the next few days and if I have to stay inside where it is air-conditioned, then I can be hand sewing the binding down.

Green Grows

I have sewn together the top half of the Green Deco quilt. As I was working the other blocks fell off the design wall. I wasn't really worried, I knew I would design it again once I got the top half sewn up. So that was next.

This is what I will sew tougher, barring any other karmic accidents.

I'm sewing this together in chunks.

This quilt is prettier, and greener, in real life.

My Mom and her boyfriend came over for dinner last night. I had made some pulled pork so we had pulled pork sandwiches with coleslaw. I also made an ice cream cake - basically I made a variation of a recipe I found online. I made mine smaller, used Dulce de Leche instead of peanut butter, almonds instead of peanuts, and I added some toffee bits to the ice cream between the crunchy layers. And then I added toasted sliced almonds to the top. My Mom sure does love her ice cream. Me, ice cream is OK, but not to-die-for. I gave her the cake to take home.

Green Deco

I decided to make a Green Deco quilt to match the Spring Birds quilt of the birds with the light green backgrounds.

The quilt is from Amy Walsh & Janine Burke's book, "Colorful Quilts for Fabric Lovers," and has two very simple blocks. I needed a lot of strips, so I cut a collection of lightish light greens.

Here are some of my first blocks, thrown on the design wall in no particular order. I already know I am going to like this, but it will look a lot better once I have a lot more blocks.

For the last day of school, my granddaughter decided to wear her "very best favorite dress" - the dress I made for her using Seminole Patchwork. You can click the link for my tutorial on basic Seminole patchwork.

Needless to say her description of the dress made my day!

Deco Rose

When I started playing with the blocks for the pink Deco quilt, I lay the blocks out any which way. I knew that wasn't the way it was in the book, so I decided I'd try it out.

Each of the A blocks was arranged horizontally, and the B block with the small block was arranged vertically with the little block at the bottom.

So I thought this could work. I worked out a layout on the floor and then transferred it to the design wall.

Five versions later, I had this and I liked it.

I did make a couple of minor changes before I started sewing the blocks together during the day on Sunday.

Now the flimsy is finished, and the tentative name of this quilt is "Deco Rose," because the colors seemed more rosy than true pink.

Deco Rose Comes to Life

These are the "B" blocks. I need 31 of these.

These are the "A" blocks. I need 32 of these (trimmed, of course.)

I started laying the blocks out on the floor, to get a feel for how big the quilt should be. I decided 9 rows of 7 blocks would be about right. This would make a quilt about 42" x 54".

As I made some blocks, I trimmed them and put them on the floor to fill out the area and get a feel for how the fabrics were working together. This is looking good, and I'm happy.
