Green Deco Done!

I finished the Green Deco quilt and took it out for Beaty shots. This is my favorite.

It's so gorgeous this weekend, I have to enjoy the lovely weather while it lasts.

I've been sewing the Blue Macnas quilt together and working outside to put the garden to bed. Inside I've been doing some cleaning and reorganizing of some areas that have been a bit neglected.

I've also been sewing the binding of the Green Birds quilt.

I have lots of student birds to show you from my trip to New York, but I've been busy settling back in, and it seems to have taken me a bit longer to get my groove back.

If you want to make your own birds, you can get my tutorial here, at my Etsy shop. It's an instant download, so you can get started right away.

All Over the Place

I'm still wrestling with Sciatica in my hip and while that's getting better, if I sit too long it's really painful, so I do small amounts of each task and then stand up and walk a bit.

I've been doing a bit of this and a bit of that. I've sewn the blocks in the leftmost column above.

I've been cutting up the neutrals I bought in New York into Macnas blocks and the side triangles for the Scrap Slab Triangle quilts.

I've also been sewing the binding on the Green Deco quilt.

That's just the sewing. I also made a beef stew and homemade bread this weekend. And I watched the new Masterpiece Theatre shows, Gold, and Maigret. And I finished one book and started another.

Binding Green Deco

I've finished binge watching the entire six seasons of Downton Abbey, and I've rewatched the first two movies. I've seen the last movie, The Grand Finale, so I am officially done. Sewing binding on a quilt is a great thing to do while I "watch" anything. I've got quite a lot of binding in my future and it's good to have a list of stuff I want to catch up on while I do it.

Binding the Green Deco Quilt

I added the binding to the Green Deco quilt.

Then I folded it over to the front and pinned it in place. I'll be hand sewing it down in the days ahead.

Updates

I've finished the Needle in a Haystack quilt. I haven't taken beauty shots of it yet. I've been preparing for my talk in Connecticut, gathering up the quilts I will show and putting finishing touches on my speech.

Here are the quilts I will bring, all labeled and sorted. It's amazing how heavy this many quilts are!

I've got the Green Deco quilt back from being quilted and I really love the quilting on it.

The Green Birds quilt is back too!  I love them both.

I will have to choose bindings for each of these, but I won't get to them until after I get back from visiting the Connecticut Piecemakers Guild.

Green Deco is a Flimsy!

I've been sewing the green deco blocks together over the last few days.

The Green Deco quilt is now a flimsy. It is brighter and a bit lighter than these photos show. I am really happy with it.

Then I cleared my work table and set out the Kangamangus quilt and added the binding to it. This photo shows the gorgeous quilting. I quite love it.

After I added the binding, I turned it over to the front and pinned it in place. It's supposed to be very hot here the next few days and if I have to stay inside where it is air-conditioned, then I can be hand sewing the binding down.

Green Grows

I have sewn together the top half of the Green Deco quilt. As I was working the other blocks fell off the design wall. I wasn't really worried, I knew I would design it again once I got the top half sewn up. So that was next.

This is what I will sew tougher, barring any other karmic accidents.

I'm sewing this together in chunks.

This quilt is prettier, and greener, in real life.

My Mom and her boyfriend came over for dinner last night. I had made some pulled pork so we had pulled pork sandwiches with coleslaw. I also made an ice cream cake - basically I made a variation of a recipe I found online. I made mine smaller, used Dulce de Leche instead of peanut butter, almonds instead of peanuts, and I added some toffee bits to the ice cream between the crunchy layers. And then I added toasted sliced almonds to the top. My Mom sure does love her ice cream. Me, ice cream is OK, but not to-die-for. I gave her the cake to take home.

Green Deco Shifts

I have been making more blocks for the green deco quilt, but it seemed a little bit disjointed. I like the green but the colored blocks didn't seem to be giving me the look I was looking for.

I had liked the way the blue and teal blocks looked when I removed the others and put the blues together I liked it.

So I removed all the colored squares from the blocks and then replaced them with blue and teal squares.

Here are all the new blocks on the wall. It's funny, but the quilt looks greener with the blue squares instead of the colored ones.

As for the office clean up, I've got a big chunk of the room clean and organized. I need a stepladder to get to the top shelf of the bookcase, so that will be later when I clean out the top shelf of the closet. The closet is 75% done, and I am pretty happy with the results so far. I really want to get it done this week because I have to prepare for my letters class next week.
