Merry Christmas!!

Little Miss and her Deco Rose quilt on Christmas morning in the City of Angels.
.
The cute calendar my son and DIL sent me. The round box is the box that contained the onesie that told me I was going to be a grandmother.

My DIL sent me this photo last night. I love everything about it.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Deco Rose Beauty Shots

I'd been waiting for the weekend to take beauty shots of the Deco Rose quilt because I needed to take photos in daylight. Alas, the weather report for the weekend was snow and rain.

Wait a minute... SNOW? That could be very good. Nothing to detract from the colors in the quilt, and nice, even light.

Here it is at the base of the grasses that border my driveway.

Here it is hanging on the railing next to the shed in the back yard.

Here it is next to the side door. I showed this one to my Mom and she said, "Oh, you have to get rid of the shovel.."  And I said, "Actually, no, you need the yellow." You can see a bit of the pink door too.

It was snowing quite heavily while I was taking these pictures. The snow was fine and dry, but it was amazing how little time it took to make a layer of snow on the quilt and change the color, as in the photo above. I kept having to pick up the quilt and shake it out.

This photo was taken after I shook the snow off the quilt.  How much snow?

Here's a close up.

At the end of the day, this photo is my favorite. There is snow accumulating in this one, you can compare it to one of the photos above to see how much.

I'm really happy I got to take beauty shots of this quilt in the snow, as it will never see snow in the City of Angels. But there was one last picture I had to take...

A picture of the quilt in front of my house. Now my granddaughter can look at the quilt and know where it came from!

With snow.

Deco Rose Done!

The Deco Rose quilt I made for my granddaughter is finished. I will try to take some beauty shots of it in the snow (since it will never see snow in the City of Angels...), then run it through the washer and dryer and send it off to my little girl.

Binding Deco Rose

I sewed the binding to the Deco Rose quilt yesterday.

Now all that's left is to hand sew it down. This is going to be one very pretty quilt.

After all, this is going to one very pretty little girl!

Deco Rose, Quilted

Deco Rose, the pink quilt I made for my granddaughter, is back from being quilted.

Here is the quilt with the fabric I have chosen for the binding. I think it's going to look terrific.

My sewing machine is still in the sewing machine "spa", so aside from trimming the quilt of the excess backing and batting and cutting strips for the binding, there's not much I can do but wait.

Home Again & Some Leftovers

My quilt, Too Much Chicken, is back home from the AQS shows in Syracuse, Chattanooga (where it won an Honorable Mention), and Des Moines. I've got to enter in the AQS shows for 2017 and sew on the labels from the shows where it has been exhibited.

I'm expecting a couple more quilts from the long arm quilter (Chris) soon.

The pink baby quilt, I made for my granddaughter, Deco Rose,

and the colorful Slashed Squares quilt I made last January. I'll be finishing those up. I have to choose binding for each quilt, but I am not worried.

I've decided to add a bit of red all around the Peppermint Candy quilt as a narrow outer border. It will give me a bit of wiggle room when I have to trim it after it's been quilted.  Problem is, I didn't have enough of the reds, so when I ordered the backing...

... these ladies in red evening gowns... I ordered more of a few of the reds too. I'll figure out which one (or ones) to use when they arrive.

While I wait for all this wonderful stuff to get here, I really have to bring my sewing machine to the sewing machine "spa" for a bit of rejuvenation. The thread cutter needs adjusting and it probably could use a little fine tuning as well.

Deco Rose

When I started playing with the blocks for the pink Deco quilt, I lay the blocks out any which way. I knew that wasn't the way it was in the book, so I decided I'd try it out.

Each of the A blocks was arranged horizontally, and the B block with the small block was arranged vertically with the little block at the bottom.

So I thought this could work. I worked out a layout on the floor and then transferred it to the design wall.

Five versions later, I had this and I liked it.

I did make a couple of minor changes before I started sewing the blocks together during the day on Sunday.

Now the flimsy is finished, and the tentative name of this quilt is "Deco Rose," because the colors seemed more rosy than true pink.

Deco Rose Comes to Life

These are the "B" blocks. I need 31 of these.

These are the "A" blocks. I need 32 of these (trimmed, of course.)

I started laying the blocks out on the floor, to get a feel for how big the quilt should be. I decided 9 rows of 7 blocks would be about right. This would make a quilt about 42" x 54".

As I made some blocks, I trimmed them and put them on the floor to fill out the area and get a feel for how the fabrics were working together. This is looking good, and I'm happy.
