Hey Mom, Can you...?

An hour and fifteen minutes before we were supposed to leave for the wedding (which was an hour away), my son texts me... "Hey Mom, can you sew a button? It needs dark gray thread."

Can I sew a button?

Is the sky blue? Is the Pope Catholic?

I grabbed my portable mending kit, threaded a needle with dark gray thread and went outside to wait for them. They arrived a few minutes later, and I got into the car and sewed the button on the drive to the wedding venue*.

Crisis averted.

Memories preserved.

My son was an officiant and my granddaughter was the ring bearer. A very good time was had by all.

*My portable mending kit is nothing more than a chocolate tin with a small magnet affixed to the cover. Inside, as you can see, are pins, a small pair of scissors, a needle threader, thimble, set of tweezers, seam ripper, needles, thread and of course, a band aid. The whole shebang is smaller than my wallet. It's handy as hell, and quite a little lifesaver.

Your car must ride smoother than mine or DH's. Or the roads are smoother. Or both. If I'd had tried to sew the button in a moving car, I'd have stuck myself with the needle more than once. Or is thaty why the bandaid is included?
Nice sewing kit!

Putting the magnet in there is genius! I have some tins I’m going to do that with. But I think I need to find a slightly larger tin that would hold small scissors.

That is such a cool sewing kit-on-the-go!

Tell owlfan, you can find some small really scissors at Hobby Lobby for less than $2.50. It has its own cover to keep over the points. I have one, it’s really nice to have. Measures about 3 inches. I think I am going to make one for my daughter to have on hand for her stepdaughter’s future wedding, but I will include the threads in colors of the wedding, plus white, and few neutral colors. With all the threads that I am putting in it, May have to use something different for a container.
Thanks, hope all have a great day for stitching.

What a super idea for the kit! And a good reason for buying some chocolate. How can your granddaughter be so big already?

Well Linda, I only had 2 kids, in turn have 7 grandkids along with 3 step grandkids that’s 10 grandkids, and 7 great grandkids, love them all. The love of my life and I will be celebrating our golden anniversary come January! We are a pair of old folks, our grandkids help us take care of the yard even! Forever blessed for they all call me nanny.

PS i am looking among my empty containers to see if I can find something suitable to use. Hopefully I can.
