I Went Shopping... and Another Thing.

I needed more pinks for the pink barn, so this morning I got up early and drove to my favorite quilt shop, Quilted Threads.

I really like the pink in the middle with the little bursts of color. I'll use one or more of these for the body of the barn. I haven't decided yet.

These three were in the sale room, and I may use one or more as accents.

I know the batik I looked at the other day would be nice, but I really liked the happy feel of this fabric, which I will probably use for the sky. Remember, we don't want to be TOO LITERAL!

So now my fabrics are taking a spin in the washing machine. I'll get to work on the barn later, but first, a confession.

Last week, I needed something from the top shelf in one of the kitchen cabinets. I'm five feet tall, so I have to use a stool. Instead of getting the step stool, I grabbed a small footstool from the living room. I got what I needed, but my foot caught the edge of the stool, overbalancing it, and I fell. The upper half of my body landed on the counter, and my left wrist hit first. I couldn't grab anything to steady myself, and I fell over backwards onto the floor.

Aside from feeling stupid, I wasn't hurt. My left wrist was sore, but I could move all my fingers and hand in any direction. I took some ibuprofen and put some ice on it and then continued about my day. My wrist was swollen, but that was to be expected.

Most of the swelling went down after a day, but some remained, a funny kind of bump. My wrist only hurt when I bent it far backwards.

After several days, the swelling was still there, and I knew I'd have to get medical advice. I have osteoporosis as well as arthritis. Sigh.

So yesterday I went to the local Urgent Care facility and got it looked at and X-rayed. Blessedly, there is nothing broken. "But you have a lot of arthritis in your hand," the nurse practitioner told me, "and that interferes with the swelling going down, so it may take some time." She checked my grip and mobility and told me to go home and treat the symptoms. If the swelling doesn't go down in 2 to 3 weeks, I'm to give them a call. The radiologist will review the X-rays on Monday and will call me if something is discovered.

Yes, I know. I am lucky.

It only takes a second to do something that suffers on for months. I try to remind myself that when I am in a hurry. Glad you are ok and could go fabric shopping.

I'm glad you didn't do worse to yourself. I'm also short and my balance isn't what it used to be. I bought one of these guys a few years ago and it really makes me feel more secure. https://tinyurl.com/y2uavfmn
And, yes, it's often a pain to drag it to wherever I need it, but I do it anyway.

I feel your pain, I fell off a tri legged stool, tore something in my knee. It as a long time before I was pain free. Getting older is a pain in the a**!

It happens so quickly, 3 weeks ago I fell, didn't see the electric blanket cord, and catapulted across the carpet. Thought my nose was broken, but not so, Then Barb, at One Good Thing tripped when out on a walk, wrist is badly sprained, and lots of gravel scrapes and now you, seems that they do run in threes!!! Hope you recover and all is well next week.

You are very, very lucky. Last week a friend tripped over the edge of the rug. On her way down she put her left arm out to try to stop her fall, dislocating that shoulder. She ended up hitting her head, above her right eye on the padded arm of the couch and fractured that area. She landed on her right shoulder, shattering that one and is now awaiting a complete shoulder replacement in another week. The ortho surgeon also feels that they may need to do some more work on the side that was dislocated and put back in place by the local ER. When I saw her last week, her entire face was black, blue & purple, and she had both arms in a double sling. I bought her some mens short sleeve button front shirts from the thrift store and sliced the shoulder/arm and put Velcro on them so she has something to wear besides her pinned together nitegown. And yes, she has to be fed and have help going to the bathroom. Consider yourself very, very lucky.

Lynne,Just in case.... be sure the radiologist checks the scaphoid bone carefully.
Broke mine and learned it heals slowly, needs to be kept immobile as the blood supply is
very poor to this particular bone. Common to break in 'slip and fall' accidents. Fortunately,
my neighbor is a specialist andanticipated the possibility. "Fingers" crossed!

Hope your hand recovers soon. I climb on things I shouldn't. It's a good idea for me to buy a step stool.

So sorry to hear of your injury, but I'm glad it wasn't more serious, especially with osteoporosis. I'm 5'0" tall too, so I totally understand the whole top shelf/step stool issue. Good luck, I hope the swelling goes down soon and doesn't interfere with your activities.

Now I understand that phone call I got from Millie. I too have chosen the wrong thing to stand on once or twice. Once you realize you haven't done anything permanent to yourself, the embarrassment sets in and that is almost worse.

I like the new sky better. Still breezy, but more gently so.

Sometimes the comment police send me through 8,9,10+ (I gave up) picture sets to select from.
I thought the LA at night picture was actually the ocean, and I was trying to figure out where the light reflecting on the "waves" was coming from, when I read the next line about it being LA....
That golden zebra quilt is soooooolovely!!

OUCH! Glad it is "okay" more or less. Take care and rest it a bit so it heals. We are fragile and it is hard to remember that sometimes.
