I simply HAD to get some sewing done to soothe my soul. So I went into the studio and started throwing fabric around. These fabrics were not really my original choices, but I have learned that sometimes I need to think less and act on instinct more, so I made this purple bird. I like it.
Sewing really centers me, and I need that, so I'll be making more birds this weekend.
If you want to make birds, you can get my tutorial here, at my Etsy shop. It doesn't require patterns or templates and it isn't paper pieced. I show you the technique, and you can improvise. I give you all the tools. Take a leap, and make a bird. By the way, I updated the tutorial slightly. I added about five pages with new pictures that answer some of my most frequently asked questions. The new tutorial has a green bird on the cover and has a page featuring student birds.

Purple Birdy could be flying anywhere as the fabrics look like maps. Love him.
I love the purple bird.
Just have to bind the quilt with the butterflies and birds on it. Just have to pick the purple fabric.
I made my first two birds this weekend. they were sew much fun. I used your pattern but changed the size to 6.5" unfinished as I am collecting 6.5" animal and flower blocks for a future row by row quilt. Also I am a member of TreadleOn and we do block exchanges with 6.5" blocks.
