When the floor of your studio looks like this it has reached Critical Mess and needs to be cleaned up.
Now I should say the last two weeks have not been without challenges. Somehow I got a "contact dermatitis" on my left forearm and my belly. I thought they were mosquito or spider bites, but then the itching kept on past a week and kept me awake at night and drove me absolutely crazy, I went to Urgent Care. "Contact Dermatitis" includes things like Poison Ivy and Poison Oak. Now I have been taking medication for the last couple of days and finally have a combination of creams that have relieved the itching. I've also been sleeping better, which is huge.
I cleaned everything up and organized all the little scraps. I was not much in the mood to make slabs so I thought of a different challenge for myself. With all the birds flying my way from all around the world (got an email from Reena in Mumbai, India who wants to send a bird) I decided to challenge myself to make birds from the scraps that are stacked on my work table. I will not cut pieces from yardage in my stash, or to use what I have in my scrap bins.
I have decided that the only thing I can pull from my stash is the WOWs I will need for the background of the birds. But don't think I'm too limited. I have several bins of scraps that AREN'T sorted on my work table, and those are in play.
I made a series of leg panels in different colors. These aren't as big as I usually make them, but I wanted a variety, so I had some fun choosing fabrics for them. This is Big Blue.
This is Lady Blue?
This is Ms Magenta. The beak and legs are NOT red, which I think is a tired and predictable combination.
This is Big Red.
And the final bird of the day is Mr Tall, Dark & Dangerous.
If you would like to contribute a bird to the student bird quilt, I'd love to have it. Email me at PatcheryMenagerie AT Gmail DOT com for my mailing address. All birds welcome.
If you would like to make some birds you can get my tutorial here, at my Etsy shop. It's an instant download, so you can get started right away.
I've been watching the tennis at the US Open and it has been phenomenal.

Fun challenge - love the multi-color bird legs -and excellently cool birds!
Similiar shrapnel all over the place here. Was clean a couple of days ago, but the birds flew in. Feel your pain with the contact dermatitis. I am extremely allergic to poison ivy and have to go on steriods if I get it. It simmers in my system for ages. The problem with poison ivy or oak is the oil from it gets on other things and then rubs off on you. The last time I had it was from doing laundry from vacation in the ADK- the oil stayed on some clothes. Tecnu has a bunch of lotion products for cleansing and barrier creams.
Mr. T is wonderful! Glad you've found some relief from the troublesome itching.
I hope you continue to get better. Itching is so uncomfortable.
The birds are cute ... Goodluck with the mess.....I could not cope.... Messy benches but not the floor....
Critical Mess, I am going to have to remember that one! Great results!
