In Herbs & Stitches

You all may know that each year I grow herbs in my garden.  Every year I pick a selection of herbs and assemble them into a bouquet. I don't usually get all fancy about it. I just start at one end of the garden and work my way through to the other. On this day, I brought them into my kitchen, and tried to arrange them the way a florist would. I think it looks pretty good.

The three blossoms at the top are garlic chives - a perennial everybody can plant in their garden. They grow to 20" tall, attract all kinds of bees and pollinators and can grow anywhere. A packet of seeds costs 99 cents, and they give so much bang for that buck I can't get over it. I think it might be worth it to replace my front yard and fill it with garlic chives! After that I have rosemary and tarragon, fresh dill and parsley. There is purple basil and sweet basil, spikes of oregano (Greek and Mexican), two kinds of mint (spearmint and pineapple mint) sage and two kinds of thyme, English and Lemon.

What's nice about this bouquet is that all I have to do is gently rub any of the leaves, the most wonderful fragrance is released. It's really a rush!

I've been hand sewing the binding on the Holiday Boxes quilt. This picture was take when I was just getting started. I have sewn it half way around, and will work on it during the Men's Final at the US Open.

There is a lot more to binding a quilt than just being able to sew invisibly. I discuss it all in my Binding Tutorial, which is on sale in my Etsy shop.

Here's another bird I made from the scraps on my work table. If you want to make birds you can get my tutorial here, at my Etsy shop

I'm still accepting birds for my student birds quilt. There is no deadline. I'd love to have your bird in the quilt. Email me at PatcheryMenagerie AT Gmail DOT com for my mailing address.

Beautiful bouquet. My garlic chives (came from my father) are blooming nicely but the dill is long past it's prime. It is inspiring to see what you do with herbs.

Lovely bouquet. Things like this always entice me to try growing herbs again. Mine always die off.

I do not know if it is inappropriate, but I think that bird's name is Isaac Greenbird.
