Continuing where I left off the other day, I worked on filling in the spaces of the new Firebird Zebra quilt.
This was decidedly NOT as exciting as the original design in black and white. Moreover, the yellow orange wasn't really that big of a change from the yellow in the middle. Hmmm.
Looking at the design again (on my iPhone), what struck me was the echoing shapes on the sides.
By this time I was in my nightgown and had brushed my teeth and was ready to climb into bed, but me being me, I went back into studio and moved some things around. Nothing good was happening, so I went to bed.
The next day I got up and thought, WHAT IF... I removed the yellow orange from the center, moved the orange next to the yellow, and then added the yellow orange outside that, kind of like an echo. The result was the photo above, and NOW it has more verve. So this is the direction I will work toward.
***btw, My dad is out of rehab and has moved into an assisted living facility. He's doing well, and his new place is terrific. My mom had her knee replaced at the beginning of December, and then spent some time in a rehab facility as well, but is now home. It's been exciting, to say the least.

Much better...working in a great direction now!
This is already awesome! It looks like a flame to me, so Firebird is probably a good name. (Remember Firebird cars? Did they come in red? Must be getting old because I can't remember!) Happy new year!
This has a very modern vibe to it to me. Love where you are going with it!
I like the new direction you are taking with this. Every quilt will tell you what it needs if you just stare at it long enough.
I'm glad your parents are doing well and still with you. Your new arrangement looks much more interesting and we will enjoy seeing your progress.
I was wondering about your dad -- thanks for the update. Really like the changes you've made to Firebird.
