Not Feeling The Love

I threw some of the Gizzy blocks up on the design wall and was not particularly inspired.

I tried arranging them so there was a color flow, but it just wasn't doing anything for me.

As you can see I have plenty of blocks...

but they just don't seem to be coming together in a way that excites me.
The fabrics are too dark and the colors just aren't bright enough.

I suppose I'll tinker with this for another day, but I'm just not seeing any good possibilities. I suppose I could cut them apart and make slabs, but still, there are far too many darks, too many browns, and not enough bright happy colors to end up being something I WANT to work on or something I WANT to own.

So these blocks might just go back into a box and head out to the nearest quilt group that makes donation quilts. Somebody else might see magic where I just see blah.

WHY, do you ask, am I "giving up" so easily?  Because I can see the end, and it just isn't worth it. Yes, I COULD make something that would be OK, but I'd be miserable doing it, and that's not a good use of my time. These blocks do not feed me in any positive way. They drain me. So they have to go.

Sometimes you have to make an Executive Decision, and it looks like I've just made one.  I'll find something else to do that lifts my spirits. It's not like I don't have enough fabric...

And when we are the CEO of our own quilting, the decisions have to be made. Good thinking, after I see all your glorious brights, these are more sedate.

Good decision. Your unhappy sewing will just drag you down and someone else may see the beauty and make that person and the recipient very happy!

I agree - round them up and pass them on. Worth the attempt but nothing more.

A wise woman knows when to move on! A friend advised me, "if it ain't fun, don't do it" regarding quilt projects. Life is too short to spend your leisure time working on something you don't enjoy.
And it always surprises me the wonderful things someone else can do with my cast offs.

Agree, my first thought was way too dark and dull. Your gizzy quilts were amazing small pieces of art.

You wanted a project that would be fun, but this has quickly become the dreaded four-letter word: "WORK"! Drudgery, even, so maybe it's time to go fabric-shopping...

"Because I can see the end and it just isn't worth it." Thanks for that quote - so apt and I will remember it for projects that I am having the same issue with. I think I have one now, actually. I am in the middle of putting the blocks together (a baby quilt size). Once that is done I will decide whether to continue on to quilting it or walk away. If I walk away, the top will be donated to my quilt guild.

Off with their heads!! Someone recently gave me a dozen or so blocks that would be "good for a donation quilt" and I started sewing them together only to realize they were not ever going to make a decent looking quilt. I dumped them. I only want to spend my time on things I really like and therefore enjoy.

Making those blocks into HSTs using a repeated solid could give them some cohesion and zip, or maybe add a giant star block (or a few) for focus. For a good donation quilt, that is, not for you! You seem to have progressed to wanting a more designed presentation, not just random whatever. You design them so well I'm sure you could come up with a stress-relieving plan that also satisfies your artistic needs.
