Sparkling Winkel Complete

Remember this?  It's the toy that inspired the colors of the Sparkling Winkel Quilt.

Here is a shot of the quilt that shows the binding off. Can I say it again? How much I really like the way it works.

I finished the quilt after sunset, so I couldn't take it outside for a beauty shot, although with 14" of snow it would have been lovely!

If you want to make a scrap slab quilt, you can get my tutorial here, at my Etsy shop. It's an instant download, so you'll can get it right away.

Great quilts from tiny ideas grow! This turned out great. I wouldn't go out to photograph it in that kind of snow either. Happy finish, and happy weekend!

?You know, since you cut the backings bigger than the quilt for the sake of the quilting process, it would probably be worth auditioning the backing as the binding in all cases. You don't just slap any old thing onto the back, so it obviously says something to you. Won't be right for EVERY one, but it could help focus the process. I suppose it could work in reverse too. If a quilt just DEMANDS to have a certain binding, that could be a clue to the backing it wanted.
