I sent the Blue Deco quilt to Chris for quilting. That means the dining room table is naked.
I liked Julie's No Ugly Flowers so much....
that I decided I had to do a version in spring-y and summer-y colors for my table.
I picked some greens.
I picked some yellows.
Now I need some pinks and maybe some blues and some oranges. And some WOWs (oh gee darn, that's easy).
This is from Sujata Shah's book, Cultural Fusion Quilts.
One final note. On the sidebar is a new link "Special Posts." It's not finished, but when I'm done I'll have links to the Red Letter Alphabet Series, start and end dates for all my quilts, links to some of my favorite posts (like "If He Can Do It" and the Slashed Squares tutorial) and the ones where I say what I think about color and design, composition, and whatnot. It's a work in progress. If there's something you really want to see, let me know. And yes, "The Value of Meh" will be there too.
I had a grand weekend. On Sunday I chatted with Chris for over two hours, and last night I talked to Julie for almost three. Nothing like a bit of high quality gal-pal time to improve just about anything!

Sort, Toss, Organize
There's a bureau in the far corner of my sewing studio. It's difficult to get to, so I don't use it as efficiently as I should. When I got back there the other day I discovered why. There is all kinds of stuff in there I don't need and will never use. This is the pile of stuff I will throw away.
Even Millie helped.
Now the stuff in the bureau, and the stuff that used to be on top of it has been sorted and better organized.
Here are the answers to some of the comments in my last post.
Where? The next town over.
How far? About five miles
Yes, I will be enjoying the birthday couch.
When? About 53 days or so, assuming the co-op accepts my application, which will be submitted tomorrow (I need to photocopy some documents and provide a photo of Millie). They say the application should take about 14 days to process.
Cross fingers.

Looking Ahead
I am not cleaning the sewing studio. I am not re-decorating. I am preparing for the "M word," which, if everything goes according to plan,(read: if all the paperwork is approved), will happen in about fifty-four days.
Needless to say there won't be a lot of quilting going on.

Planning
This is a future quilt project in the works. I'm nowhere near ready to start sewing. First, I have to settle on a way to organize the words in this quote.
I have turned my wonky free pieced letters on their sides, making them wider than they are tall. (Most of them, anyway.) As usual, I draw my letters out first, experimenting, then when I get some ideas I think I will like, I color them in with black permanent marker, make photocopies, then start cutting and rearranging the letters until I get a layout that pleases me.
Here are two arrangements. There are seven things that are different from one to the other. Do not consider the word spacing -- that won't happen until the letters are sewn together.
There are two red herrings - which is to say two things you ought to be able to see right away. Some of the differences are very subtle.
This isn't a contest, there is no prize, no bragging rights. It's just a way to share my thought process, and to show how sometimes the littlest things really do make a difference.
I've left the photos quite large. You can click them, then click them again to enlarge so you can see a lot of detail.
Have fun!
