Getting Down To It

Having decided how my fabrics would be laid out on the quilt, I decided to do one vertical column, one pair at a time. This green print is lovely, but doesn't have enough "punch" to qualify as a diva in the quilt, so it is part of a "background" pair. As you can see I sewed the strips together so the print wouldn't be discombobulated.

So far, so good.
Good for the next two pairs also.

But the feathers, hmm. They don't take over as much as they should and the soft green I paired it with doesn't play them up. And then the two greens next to them are too bright and too dominant. Those will have to go.

I shuffled the bright green to the edges, and they aren't much better. They will have to go. I'm still not sure about the feathers, but I kept going.

Colors look different depending on what they are next to, and the way this quilt is developing sure proves that. I know that what I have would be OK for many people, but not for me. I know what I want it to look like. I'm going to have to make adjustments. That doesn't worry me at all.

But that doesn't mean it isn't a little bit aggravating!

I know you will continue till it is all to your total satisfaction. Yes, to me, that would be fine, but I don't have your marvellous eye for matching and pairing up the fabrics. Zebra, waiting in the wings!!!

You cut the birds so they show. What a delightful detail to see when the quilt is done.
