These three birds look like they are related but the middle bird has a light colored beak. I wanted him to have a beak like the others...So I took the beak out,
.
So here is a Mom (a pretty mouthy one) with her four children. The wing fabric is the same in all the birds but the breast and beak fabrics are not all the same. You can tell they are all related, and yet they are all individuals.
I'm having a lot of fun making these families of birds. I'm having fun thinking of how they will all interact with each other in the final quilt.
You too, can make fun birds like these. Get my tutorial here at my Etsy shop. It's an instant download so you can get started right away.

Happy that you made a related but not identically designed family - our neighbors raised twin boys and no one (including teachers) could tell them apart since they were always dressed the same. Hard to be an individual when you have a clone (and I still can't tell them apart unless the one who is married has his ring on).
I think this is such a great idea to have families of birds in the quilt.
Now that is what I thought about the set with a different beak on one( that you changed) - that some inherited gene had come out and so that birdie had a different beak, although the rest of him looked like the other family members!
