Steve's Blue Slashed Squares

I "met" Steve because he commented on a blog post I wrote some years ago. Steve lives in Alaska. We've talked several times on the phone since them. Sometime last year he asked me if I had a suggestion to make a fairly quick quilt (I think). Immediately I suggested my Slashed Squares. It's a quilt that has a lot of possibilities and goes together really quick.

Steve made the quilt for a friend who was about to retire, and move across the country to warmer climes. The fabrics include many with references to cold, snow and Alaska.

"It's funny," he said to me the last time we talked, "two fabrics you think are of a different value when you look at them, suddenly look almost the same when you look at a photograph of them. And then when you at the real thing again, you SEE that difference."

"Yeah," I sighed. "It's weird how that works. I'll think I have a layout PERFECT, and then I'll take a picture, and as I walk out of the studio, I look at the picture I just took and realize there is more work in front of me.

"It happens to all of us."

Remember though, all of you who are reading, that the recipient of a gift does not care about things like that, because as we all know, there is no better gift that a quilt that represents your love.

I think the quilt is BEAUTIFUL! Well done, Steve!
