The Arrangement

At first blush this looked pretty good, although I'm not excited about the bird being in the exact center.

But then I shuffled. I tried to distribute the busy patterns all around and I tried to keep the mostly solid looking red and green boxes away from each other (diagonal = OK; adjacent = Not OK).

I'm still not exactly thrilled with the bird in the exact center. I guess that means I will have to make another bird (or two) and tinker a bit.

Oh. Gee. Darn.

Love your boxes. I'm with you the bird looks lost without some buddies trying to peek into a package, open, get into the box; act like a kid. What's in the candy cane box? I need to get out my Xmas fabric. Thanks for the inspiration.

I know you know this--uneven numbers keep us interested. So 3 to 5 birds scattered in the top ?? Love it as usual. You are so talented, that sometimes you make my head spin :-)

I like this quilt. A lot. I like the single bird and I would put her in the spot diagonally to the lower right, where the solid tan box is. You're making me want to make a gift box quilt as a gift for someone for next year. I wonder if there's a way to put something in the bird's beak, like a Christmas ball?

I kept scrolling up, then down, then up to see the change in the arrangement. I agree with Nancy -- put this bird where the solid tan box is. You could add a bird (tilt its head down to the right?) at the upper left corner. Maybe.

You are so talented at what you do, it makes me almost afraid to put in my two cents worth. How about a longer flater box with the bird on top? Or just the bird head peeking around a box from behind? One box left open? Hmmm, guess I should keep my mouth shut. It will be interesting to see how you change the layout.

Will there be sashing? I suppose you might place the bird first, and then build from there.

Can you reduce the size of the bird and put two in one square??? Just a thought

The bird may be in the center, but he is not symmetrical, so it isn't as crucial. The boxes look terrific.

I like Nancy's idea. A small asterisk as an ornament hanging from the bird's beak.

a couple more birds means you also get to make more packages! A bountiful Christmas!
