This mask was made by my dear friend Mary, whose son-in-law is a surgeon in Ohio. |
We quilters can help with the cause to keep everyone safe. We can make masks.
Here is an article from this week's New York Times about how sewers everywhere are contributing to the cause.
And this one is from yesterday's New York Times that says we should probably all wear masks when we go out.
Here is a study about what kinds of fabrics are best and why. Very illuminating!
Here is an excellent link from eQuilter about all things masks.
Finally, here is a link from the Deaconess Hospital with instructions to make masks. I am sure there are dozens of instructions out on the internet.
Be safe everybody.

Meg Cox had a very well written piece in her newsletter about masks and mask making - apparently Luana Rubin of eQuilter has one of the best resources on their website. #1 thing before making lots of masks is to be sure WHO you are making them for - many hospitals have specific needs and they will reject masks that don't fit those criteria.
Thanks Julie, I have added eQuilter's link to the post.
Just in time! I was looking for instructions for a basic mask. Someone told me that, while many of DIY masks won't protect you from the virus, wearing one WILL remind everyone to keep their distance. So, if you must go out, wear a mask.
I just checked out most of those links - thanks for sharing :)
