It Ain't Over Till It's Over...

Until I deem a quilt "finished," everything is fair game for modifications.

There was a lot of dark stuff at the top of this quilt, so I moved the row of paper dolls down to the bottom. I like it better there.  I have another panel of them, and I'll put it right alongside the first. Your brain makes the connection between PAPER dolls and PAPER piecing.

I wasn't so keen on the IS NOT letters. They were darker than dark and didn't really relate to anything else. So I changed them. I had some fun with the T.

Remember that if you are fussy cutting, you have a lot of choices, For one thing, you get to decide how big or small something is going to be by deciding how much and what part of a print to show. Can't do that in traditional patchwork! I love this upright, but what about the crossbar across the top of this letter T?

Can  you spot the difference between this one and the one above it?

Or this one and the one below it?
Which one did I use? Well I'll let you figure it out.

I'm not sure that new T is doing me any favors, but I'll leave it there for now. I love the two paper doll panels at the bottom, don't know how I can integrate the Ghastly Gardener in the lower left with the rest of the quilt. This quilt is already busy enough. That's it for now though.

Probably for the first time ever, I don't think one part of your quilt is" singing", and it is the last " T " it seems to fade into the fabric around it. But what a delight to see the options for all your letters. Paper dolls, did you ever play with them as a child? I had books with the dolls, their clothes. maybe in the 1940's, and a few months ago, I saw a wee girl at a café with a book of modern paper dolls. I do like yours at the bottom, and the analogy is great.

Lynne, the "a" in paper pieced has bothered me because the flowers in the background fabric kind of connect the to bar to the bottom and distract my eye from reading it as an "a" but rather an "8". Is it like that IRL? I love the new "is not" colors and the paper dolls are fabulous....so perfect for this quilt. Love that you showed the different ways the green undulating line of dots could be placed....I guessed correctly :-D

I so appreciate your explaining why you make design changes and photos of how your ideas progress- even for the letter T. I love to learn how the design is processed.

Glad you changed the "is not" from that drab dull business to the newer and more cohesive parts. And I think that Ghastly Gardner needs to be part of your name panel on the quilt's back. Lynne Tyler - gardener of quilts - after all, you plant/ponder, water/make, weed/edit, and replant/re-arrange/remove the elements until the garden/ quilt is just right - so much like the planning that has gone into your beds outdoors.

After being one of your letter posse, I've been watching the growth of this new quilt with newfound admiration and respect. I LOVE the new "T", until you put it in the word. Then, I thought - it's like the bad Jean. The background is too much for the "T". It kind of fades into the background fabric.

Can't wait to see the quilt when it is finished/

I love what you are doing with letters and bought your tutorial. Can't wait to get some time to give them a try. For what it's worth, I think the "not" needs to be a stronger. When you read it, the emphasis is on the "NOT paper pieced". Maybe the red "No" on the side could be auditioned in place of the current "not". Again, I hesitate to give advise but there it is! And I love the paper dolls!
