I am sure I am not the only quilter who discovers stuff in her stash that she didn't know was there.
I bought this swirly batik way back in 2007 or 2008 and didn't know I had any of it left. I found it as I was cleaning the scraps off my worktable. I put it up on the design wall so I wouldn't lose it again. At the time I thought it would make some great bird legs, but as I sat in my chair looking at the design wall the other night (because I think sometimes it's good to sit and just LOOK at the work you have done) I realized it would make a really terrific bird.
As I was wondering what other fabrics to use, I spotted the blue breast fabric sitting on top of a pile of fabrics I needed to put back on the shelf. I liked that they both had curves. Once I made that decision, the beak fabric caught my eye (again, more curved shapes) and I knew I was set. That the blue (already made) legs were surrounded by more rounded shapes was just icing on the cake.
I will spend today counting down the hours until the Super Bowl, where I hope Millie's pals, The Guys Named Pat, will take home their sixth trophy. I am sure it will be a nail biter until the very end. And possibly even later than that.

Blues with silvers, so lovely.
The batik is perfect for the wing.
Will there be a "Pats" bird in your NH quilt?
I find treasures all the time. It's better than dumpster diving.
I'm so disappointed - I finally get the dates that my husband needs to be in NH and they are during MQX. I looked up your bird class and it is only on Wednesday and we don't arrive until Thursday night. So sorry to miss meeting you and taking you class.
So lovely. What fun to see what we can make from our scraps if we just look.
Love the curves and circles and the soothing blue! This might be my favorite so far.
Sorry, not a real nail biter--did any one really expect any other winner than the "Pats"? And I am sure there will be at least 6 "Pats Birds" in the NH quilt some where along the way. :-) (when the Seahawks lost to Millie's friends, I did a string quilt--I started it at the beginning of the game with the planned out come of the quilt having more "strings" of the game winner. It was a bummer having to order "Pats" fabric from your neck of the woods) All of that being said--Congratulations "again" :-)
