It's because Cheryl Arkinson is Canadian, and like me, she spells color with a u: colour, but it had to be removed for the American spelling of the word in the quilt book.
Oh, thanks for the reminder of these blocks. I've made some in the past as donation blocks and just came up with a bunch of odd size white squares. I knew there was something I should be doing with them. Yours look great.

I am curious why these blocks are called Missing U. Is it because of the lonely focal bit, more or less in the centre of the block? They are lovely.
