Rainbow Baby...

I've got the pieces sewn together for the Rainbow Baby quilt.
I really like this. I considered adding a thin inner border, and then a larger darker border, but the baby isn't due until February and the parents to be do not know the baby's gender, and the borders could make the quilt read either "girly" or "boyish" and I wanted to avoid that.

When I tried this dark blue and white swirl, I thought it looked great, so I cut some wider strips to try.

I really liked it, so that's what I used. Now I'll select a backing and get this out to Chris for quilting. What will I use for binding? I don't know, but I might just use the same fabric as the border so the colors just float.

Wow - you work quickly, Lynne. I agree with you that the fabric you've chosen for the border works well. If the quilt were mine, I think I'd opt for a yellow, orange or green binding to serve as a frame. I'll be interested to see what you end up choosing.

That border is the perfect choice. I like all of the different light fabrics rather than just one too.

Very bright and fun!

this quilt has an optical illusion of moving when I look at it on the screen. I like your border and the variety of background prints. and I admire your speed -- I've been making a quilt for a baby due this month since April, and I'm only now sewing down the binding!

Megan, I didn't cut squares. This is strip pieced.

Wanda, thank you! As soon as I set it down I knew it was right.

Brenda, yes, I see that moving optical illusion as well. I think the border helps that effect.

To all: I do not think I will use a contrasting border. I like the effect of the floating squares and I will likely use the border fabric as the binding.
