I made a pair of identical twin quilts for a client many years ago, and it really bothered me that I had to make them exactly the same. I really wanted to make one slightly different.
Most pairs of quilts are probably for siblings, or for two beds in a guest room, but I'm curious. How many of you have made two quilts at the same time, in the same colors, and general scheme, that are destined to be used in the same room?
Did you make them identical? Or did you deliberately make one a little bit different?

I have never done that, but I'd go nuts making two quilts that were identical! Even a large quilt with row after row of the same block would lose its appeal, I think. I love how you coordinated them but gave each its own design. The room will be more interesting for it, too.
I prefer similar to identical, even if all that is changed is the backing and the binding.
I think similar is good. I don't know if I would like matchy, matchy in the same room.
I made two quilts with the exact same fabric, though not at the same time. I changed the design quite a bit between the two quilts. Both quilts are in the same room on my daughters beds, and I like that they are of the same fabric, but different enough to be interesting.
I made quite a few matching quilts, one bed size, and one smaller one to lay on a chair, always same fabric, but not alway even the same pattern. Usually the chair throw is yellow brick road, or similiar to use up smaller pieces.
I made 2 "twin" quilts once but not identical twins! I started out making a scrappy coin quilt in patriotic fabrics. No pattern used and I cut waaaay too much fabric, so I just made two quilts. They both have navy blue fabric in the columns, but they don't match....also, different backing & binding. They will both end up in the same room, when I finish the binding! *grin* So far, 2 years and counting.
I just finished two quilt tops ~ that I need to quilt this week. Same fabrics, different patterns ~ for the same baby boy. One will be for his bassinet and the other for his crib.
