Fat Quarter Frenzy

The annual Fat Quarter Frenzy is at Quilted Threads this weekend, so naturally I took Friday afternoon off so I could get there early.
I picked up a lot of "bundles." In this photo, the fabrics in each row were bundled together (except that black and gold in the middle row.)
 This was another big  bundle.
These were the individual FQ's I selected.

In all I bought 62 fat quarters, which is the equivalent of 15-1/2 yards of fabric. Each FQ was $1.45 USD, or a savings of about 52%.

Of course, once I brought these home they had to take a trip through the washing machine and the dryer.
The stray threads had to be trimmed from the edges.

The fabrics had to be ironed.
And folded.

The long drive up to QT provided me a wonderful opportunity to work out my story in my head. I now have a much better beginning, and a tighter storyline.

Weekend Frenzy

This is the weekend for the Fat Quarter Frenzy over at my favorite quilt shop, Quilted Threads, in Henniker NH. Thousands of fat quarters are on sale for $1 each. What can I do with a fat quarter?

I can make a skinny little zippered bag,
I can make a wonky house,
I can make free-pieced letters in a name.

I can make something a bit more traditional...
or not.
And I always "harvest" the selvages for something fun.So, am I going to make the trek to QT this weekend even though my house is a disaster, there's a quilt I want to finish and it's still hot-as-hell?

Well, yeah.

Fat Quarter Frenzy

My sister and I went out to Henniker to the terrific quilt shop there on Friday for their "Fat Quarter Frenzy." They had an estimated 20,000 fat quarters for $1.00 USD each. You had to get at least 25.

I didn't have any trouble. I had been squirreling away a few dollars each week, and the day before the big sale, I brought my jar of coins to the bank, where they exchanged them for bills. I had $11 worth of coins. Whee!

I went with a list. I wanted about 5 yellows, 5 whites, 5 blues, 5 Asian-themed, 5 "large prints" and 10 batiks. It helped me from going completely crazy. I ended up spending $55, which was all the cash I brought.

There were a lot of beiges and browns, and novelties and "charms", but none of those interest me. I was pretty happy. Now they're all washed, ironed and folded. I've also harvested the selvages.

Later I'll be working on the backing of the Sunshine Quilt I can't show you.
