A few years ago I bought this panel of owls. I happen to love owls. I think this would be fun to include in the back of the Heartbeat quilt. It's fun, and I think sometimes we take things way too seriously. I haven't decided to include it yet, but I think it would look good. We'll see.

The biggest other news I have is about me. Over the years I have put on too much weight, and my blood pressure has gone up. My doctors are also worried about my A1C. I am not diabetic, but I fall into the pre-diabetic range. Those three things together are not good. So I have visited a nutritionist and am making the appropriate modifications to my diet and lifestyle (meaning I have to move my body more). I am also testing my blood regularly. It's been quite an adjustment and that has been occupying my thoughts and time the last week or so.
My Mom and her boyfriend are also recovering from their respective trips to the hospital and are now reunited and happy to be back together. My Mom is 91 and he is 89. I am under no illusions.
It was -7F here this morning, and I am glad I can stay inside where it is warm. We've got snow on the ground and it's pretty. Take care and stay warm and safe.

I have been a Type-2 diabetic for more than 20 years. Watching your carb intake is your number one job. That said, I don't think doctors do you any good by saying you are "pre-diabetic". Your A1C number is either in the normal range or it's not. Sometimes when a person is told they are pre-diabetic, they don't take it seriously. If your A1C is higher than normal, you are in fact diabetic. I see that you are taking it seriously which is a good thing.
Lose a bit of weight - even10 lbs will make a difference. Move a bit more (walking is good), and watch those carbs. I have had no complications from diabetes because of keeping my numbers in line. It's mostly about making choices. If you have a dinner roll, then pass up the mashed potatoes. You can have a brownie or piece of cake, but count the carbs. You will do fine.
Mary Ellen has some good advice. I am glad you are seeing a nutritionist and are willing to make changes - that goes a VERY long way to feeling better. And I love the owls for that backing (at least in theory). Time will tell if they play well together, but I do love the idea.
The owls will be great for the back of the quilt--both complimenting and complementing. I like busy backs, too, and I'm often surprised to see quilts in shows that have just-plain, all-the-same-fabric backs. Good luck with your new regimen!
I'm glad you're taking your doctor's advice seriously. My husband didn't and, hence, he is no longer with us, gone way too soon. It will be interesting to see how the owl panel looks with the backing you chose.
