Oh Saturday, My Saturday!

Let's start with the good stuff. My DGD and I made Confetti Cupcakes via FaceTime on Saturday afternoon.

The cupcakes were delicious, we had a blast making them, but the highlight of my day was when we first got connected my DGD grinned and me and said, "Memere, I missed you!"

Pretty sure I was floating...

Earlier in the day I did the hard stuff.

This is the hall closet AFTER I got rid of sixteen million paper bags, and some free schwag bags I'll never use, a winter coat I hate and THREE sets of matching winter hats, gloves and scarves I will never wear. Then I washed all the coats, including my winter down coat. Now if you live in an area of the country where you need a down jacket, you know how dirty it can get, and salty from the salt on your car, so it being mid-April I didn't want to just put it back in the closet dirty. I read the care instructions and threw it (carefully) in my washing machine. I did that with all the other coats. (Except the Gore-Tex one.)

btw that bag on the door.. it's from the Getty Museum. She was just too pretty to stuff in a basket with all the others.

This is my bathroom. All the crap on the counter came from those three drawers. Because you know you can't really clear it out unless you get it all out. So I emptied the three drawers.

You know how every time you go to the dentist they give you a little gift bag? With a new toothbrush, a small tube of toothpaste and some floss? Well every time I threw the bag in one of the drawers. Do you want to know how many tiny tubes of toothpaste I had? TOO DAMN MANY.

I also had pain killers that expired in 2017.

I got rid of all the dupes, expired stuff and the stuff I would never use (hair clips???) and then surveyed what was left. I organized them in three categories: Teeth, Pain and Skin. All the dental stuff went in one drawer. All the pain killers and cold and cough medicines went in another drawer. The skin drawer was for the topical pain killers (the Voltarin, and anti itch creams), the antibacterial creams, skin lotions and band aids.

Then I made this pink bird.

That wasn't all I did. I also roasted a chicken for dinner because this way I won't have to worry about what to eat when I get back from the Memorial service later.

DGD is beautiful and sure looks amazed by her cupcakes :). I hope you’ll get an in-person visit with her soon but you certainly can’t beat zoom cooking in the meantime. Keeping you in my thoughts as you continue to grieve. My heart aches for you.

I just did much the same in our bathroom. 30 plus tiny containers of dental floss were lurking in one spot - a fresh one in each car, one in each bathroom, and the rest in the trash. Ditto with the count for tubes of toothpaste - divided them between the bathrooms and we will use them up before returning to normal size tubes. Next dental visit I will say “no thanks” and smile.

Happy Easter to my favorite blogger! How adorable are the confetti cupcakes don with your granddaughter! I have been enjoying all of your pink birds too. Thank you for sharing your fabric stash, slowly refining my stash and by doing so have found it more user friendly. My bird is bottom left in the first quilt with the black and white striped legs. Enjoying your blog !

What a fun day with your DGD! Cupcakes have always been a favorite to make at my house. Maybe, just maybe, my 27 yo DD will gift me with a grandchild, till then my lovely grandcat Mayo will have to suffice, and I do love him dearly! Your cleaning and organizing has given me the hard push I needed to get this done myself. There is one closet I dread, it's been untouched for years save stuffing more stuff in it, lordy knows what lurks in there! And the main bathroom cabinets are just like yours were, I'm sure there are drugs in there that are positively toxic by now. Now if I can just tear myself away from my fun sewing room for a while ....

The expression on your granddaughter's face is priceless. Hope the memorial service was a celebration and remembrance of your Dad and will bring you comfort. Each pink bird is wonderful.

The last time I cleaned out all my dental extras I called my local food bank and asked if they could use the small toothpaste, floss and extra brushes. YES! It felt good to get them to a place that could use them instead of just tossing them.

That's 2 jobs nice to be done with. I swear I go through the medicines and first aid every couple of years, so how is it I find things expired 10 years ago?!?

Love the new batch of birds!
