I've decided to break up the student birds into two quilts. This way the quilts will be able to fit to hang in smaller spaces for display, and it when I teach a class, there will be two quilts in the room instead of just one.
Putting disparate blocks together is tricky. It's adding fabrics to one side or another, trimming the blocks so the edges are straight and square, inserting the occasional set-in square and basically winging it.
Here is the top third of the quilt in process.
Here I have used red ribbon to show the way I'll put this quilt together.
Stay tuned.
All the birds in the student birds quilt are made by folks who bought my tutorial and made their own birds. You can make birds too. You can get my tutorial here, at my Etsy shop. These birds are made without patterns or traditional templates, and they are not paper pieced.
My bird tutorial makes a basic bird like the one above, but a lot of the birds in the quilt above were customized by my customers/students without any help from me. You can do it too!

Are the birds fun! I especially like the ones with very long legs.

Can't wait to see the classes of '22 together.
What a fun mix of colors and creativity. I love your idea of making two smaller quilts.
