Sewing up A Spring of Teal

The mechanics of sewing bird blocks of different sizes together isn't hard, it's just time consuming.

Here's the wrong side, and you can see how some of the blocks have more fabric added to the top, and some to the bottom. This allows me more freedom to arrange the birds more creatively.

Here's the finished flimsy, "A Spring of Teals." It's 46-1/2" wide by 60-1/2" tall. It has birds that are really big, and really tall. It has birds with wide breasts and different sized beaks. I wanted to show that my birds are very customizable, fun and forgiving!

Cherie sent me four yards of this fabric last year, and I think it will be perfect for the backing.

If you want to make your own birds, you can get my tutorial here at my Etsy shop. It's an instant download so you can get started right away.

I've been stitching small HSTs for filler when I lay out my 12 birds ... they're all quite similar in size so I want to add spacers here and there to keep the layout from being stuffy and boring. LOVE A Sprint of Teal.

So, if you are going to use this as a teaching piece, why are you going to back it? I would think that if you leave it a flimsy, students could really see how you "put it together". Quilt it down the road, but I always think that to see the back of the flimsy gives me a better handle on how the teacher puts it together, presses it. Just wondering. Pet Millie for me.
