Nope, It Isn't!

Like I said yesterday, we all know when it isn't working.

The NOT wasn't working. The green got washed out with the busy print background, but that wasn't the thing that really bothered me. Generally, for free pieced letters to look like a word (I mean, to look like they belong together) they have to look somewhat similar. They can be the same color or the same value. The NOT that wasn't working had a center letter that didn't match. I really liked that center, so I decided to go in that direction.

Here is the new NOT, and I am happy with it. I have surrounded it with the second background fabric I am using for this quilt. It's actually busier than the one around the PAPER PIECED letters, but it has the same colors and some sewing notions so it's perfect.

When I first started this, I wasn't too sure about the busy backgrounds, but as this gets farther along, and as soon as I surround words with the background, the thing improves, and I am liking this a lot.

I have to tell you though, this thing looks ugly as sin in all the photographs I take, but in real life, it's really nice looking.

And yes, all who commented yesterday. You were all right, the NOT had to go, so it did.

And Julie, the Ghastly Gardener will indeed be on the back of my quilt. Your comment brings to mind the way one of my professors signed her book to me:

If you want to make your own letters like I do - without paper piecing, or templates or patterns or applique, you can get my tutorial here, at my Etsy shop. It's an instant download, so you can get started right away.

Glad you changed the NOT. Should there be a comma after NO, like a pause??

I can't thank you enough for sharing all the steps and decisions of this project. I am learning a lot, anticipating what you will take apart/change next. You are either very brave to do this, or very devoted/passionate about it.
