"SweetBean" selected a bright blue to color a house. I had made copies of all the house drawings, so I could figure out which house she had colored.
Now, "SweetBean" is 3, so she doesn't have the coordination of an older child, and I knew her drawing would be mostly scribbles. I knew that I would work with whatever colors she had selected. I hadn't expected a monochromatic colored house.
This is just one example of how a challenge can get you out of your "comfort zone" and push your creativity a bit. I would -never- have created a monochromatic house, but it was a great idea.
I went through my stash and scrap bins choosing fabrics. I didn't want to use the crutch of "blue and..." fabrics. I wanted to use blues of different values and of scale of pattern. I worked out how I would assemble the house (the red lines on the drawing) and started sewing.
I am quite happy with it. The block as shown is 21" tall by 18-1/2" wide. I will trim it down later.

True blue reminds me of winter in New England when the sun in low on the horizon and everything, including the snow on the ground, takes on a bluish hue. Geez Louise! I just saw on the weather channel where most of New England continues to be rainy and cool. Wish I could trade you some hot and sticky weather for some of your cool and rainy...
Yeah, we are due for a whole week of mid-70's, cloudy, rainy days. It truly sucks. Everybody up here is aggravated.
btw, the curtain panels yesterday were made very simply, and the top one hangs from an ordinary curtain rod, it just doesn't have any finials on the ends for decoration.
This one is very different from the other houses. I love the monochromatic design of this one. Job well done!
I never would have thought of an all blue house either, but "SweetBean" had a great idea...I love it!
Did you say anywhere how many of these houses it will take to build your community? They are amazing, but I have lost count!!??!! I love 'em!
Oh, I love the blue house...your fabric choices were great! She's going to love it...
So pretty! I love the blue house. Great work! I can't wait for my daughter to start coloring for me.
Yeah, Sweetbean!
Love the blue house... I actually think a grouping of monochromatic houses would make a pretty cool quilt!
It definitely looks like a cold winter day up here in the north. Nice on a hot day like this.
See? She knew that would look great!
