A New Table Quilt

I love blue and white serving dishes and have been collecting them over the years. I got this small tray recently and realized I should make a blue and white quilt for my table.

 I have a lot of blue and white dishes and serving dishes that I've been collecting over the years and I thought I should make a blue and white table quilt.

I cut a lot of medium, dark and light blue strips and sewed them together into squares, then I added a snowball corner of a WOW.

I have to make 63 blocks, because I calculated I would need nine rows of seven blocks for the table quilt. It's looking nice.

On Sunday I'll be speaking to the Schoolhouse Quilt Guild in Shrewsbury MA about my letter quilts. I've got my speech ready and I've packed my quilts. I'll let you know how it goes.

Tumbling Over

Are you tired of the Tumbling puns yet? The tumbler quilt flimsy is finished. I'll be choosing a backing when I visit Quilted Threads today to deliver Julie Sefton's quilt See Rock City.

I added four rows to the quilt, and now it falls over the edges of the table nicely. The table is an antique Duncan Phyffe style drop leaf mahogany table I inherited from my grandmother. It is about 40" x 63" as shown, and has three 12" leaves that can be inserted to make the table eight feet long and big enough to seat twelve. The "table quilts" I have made for this table are different sizes, the biggest being the Fall House Top quilt which I use for Thanksgiving dinners.

It's That Time of Year...

Time to change up the table quilt. Much as I love the Blue Deco quilt, autumn is here, and it is time for the Fall House Top quilt to grace my dining room table. Since this quilt is so big, I added one of the extra leaves (extensions) to the table to make it bigger. I changed the bowl, too.

When Megan was here, she inquired about the quilt on the table. "Don't you worry about it getting wet, or stained?"

"No. It's washable."

She said she wouldn't do it (at least that's what I think she said. I'm sure she'll correct me if I got it wrong.) But that's fine with me.

Cutting Red

Waiting really sucks, so I have to keep busy. I decided I didn't have enough real reds to complete this quilt, so I placed an online order for more. Then I cut up what I already had. Now I'll set it aside and wait for my online order to arrive.

Blue Deco

Take some of these

or, what I'm calling Blue Deco.

It'll be my "summer" table cover.  It's comprised of two blocks, each finishing out at 6" square. Block A has three 2" x 6" strips sewn together, block B has a 4" x 2" rectangle sewn to a 2" square, sandwiched between two 2" x 6" rectangles. (All dimensions are finished sizes.)  Couldn't be simpler and I'll be using the littlest pieces in my medium to light blue and blue-green stash along with little pops of color for the 2" squares.

I'll need about 117 blocks to make something to cover the table and hang down about 6" on all four sides. It should go pretty quick. I've made 20 blocks already, and I was just goofing around. I found the inspiration in this book, Colorful Quilts for Fabric Lovers.

Fall House Top Flimsy is Complete

The Fall House Top quilt flimsy is complete. It's 56" x 110" or so. Here it is on my fully extended dining room table.

Normally a quilt like this would have a border, but this one won't. It already hangs down 8" on all sides, which is enough for a tablecloth without being a pain for the people sitting at the table. When the extra leaves are removed and the drop leafs are lowered, the quilt still looks good.

After Thanksgiving I'll send it to Chris for quilting.

Pat wanted me to take pictures of the Thanksgiving table when it is set. The table will look great. Do you know I have Fiestaware dishes?? (You're not surprised at all, right?)
