April Quilts

 

The table quilt for April is Julie's Hidden Potential quilt. She made it out of my leftover dud letters and other bits and bobs. April is Spring, and Spring is Green.

The quilt on the bed is Jigsaw Puzzle, a Slashed Squares quilt made of "mini" blocks. These blocks are 7" square, and the quilt is made from fabrics in my stash. They weren't "scraps" but my rule for this quilt was not to cut into yardage from the fabric in my big stash. The Slashed Squares quilt is a really easy quilt that has a lot of potential.

Speaking of Jigsaw Puzzles, I finished mine. This is from Werkshoppe.com. I have never done an entire jigsaw puzzle all by myself. It's a good thing to do before you go to bed, assuming you can pull yourself away!

I cut up a whole bunch of four block strips from the leftover Zebra triangles, and I'll be sewing those into sixteen patches over the weekend.

Three Quilts for March

 I like making quilts, and when I figured out I could make a table quilt, I decided to make one for each month of the year. (I love bowls, too, and this gives me an excuse to have a spiffy bowl for each quilt.)

March is my least favorite month of the year. It's usually grey and dull and blah and muddy. So black and white is a perfect quilt for March. This is Terrazzo, a Slashed Squares quilt. Readers ask if I really eat on the quilts. I do, but I use a placemat. You can see one at my place in the photo above. It's black and white and pink. (my pal Julie made me a set.)

I decided to show off some other quilts this month. So I changed the one that lives on the back of the couch. Julie made this one too. It's called Hidden Potential, and it's made from my dud letters. About ten years ago when I was planning a class on free pieced letters, Julie suggested I send her my duds. "Just because YOU can't use them doesn't mean they are bad," she wrote, "and your students need to know that too."

Julie sent me this quilt for my birthday a while back. I love black and white and colors. It's cold here at night in winter, so I like to have an extra quilt on the bed. I figured this one was March-ish too. What's funny, is Julie also made the quilt underneath, the one that has lived on my bed since I got it, and if that isn't a compliment, I don't know what is.

June Table Quilt

It's already a week into June, and I finally put the June table cover on the dining room table.

There is a new addition to the tablescape. I broke my butter dish a few months ago, and finally decided to replace it.

I bought this octopus painted butter dish by Sara Hunter on Etsy. 

The Zebra tutorial is a day or two away. There is one final area that needs a bit of work, but it's really really close.

Binding Easter Basket

I attached the binding for the tumblers quilt, Easter Basket, last night.

I'll pin it over to the front and hand sew it down. This will be a table cover for my dining room table.
