A Spring of Teal, almost... DONE!!!

I am hoping to finish the binding and hanging sleeve on this quilt, finally.

Woo hoo! This is finally finished! The light isn't great, but I'll get a better picture later.

The quilting is lovely on this! Janet-Lee did her usual spectacular work.

Here is a picture of the flimsy so you can see the birds in more detail. As you can see, these birds are not identical.

Birds can be easily customized; they can be bigger, or fatter, or taller. If you want to make your own, you can get my tutorial here, at my Etsy shop. It's an instant download so you can get started right away.

Binding Birds

I have two more quilts to bind, so I am working on the bird quilt,  A Spring of Teal. Millie decided she needed to help.

Somebody asked me somewhere if my birds could face to the right. CLEARLY they can. This Arty bird is also on the large side.

This gives you an idea of the scale. My birds are easy to customize, and you can have a lot of fun with them.

I think it's fun that the binding of this bird quilt is cats!

More Binding and The Thimble

I added the hanging sleeve and the binding to the Spring of Teal quilt.

Earlier today I gift wrapped all the packages that are flying to LA next week, including the Diamond Dinosaur quilt. Then I packed them up in boxes and got them ready to drop off at the Post Office on Monday.

I've got all the Christmas decorations up, and later today I will set up the Christmas tree.

When I sew the binding down on the front of my quilts, I always use a thimble. I have two thimbles, but I prefer to use the one on the right. I'm not quite sure why. It's probably just habit. I have no idea where I got it.

Sewing up A Spring of Teal

The mechanics of sewing bird blocks of different sizes together isn't hard, it's just time consuming.

Here's the wrong side, and you can see how some of the blocks have more fabric added to the top, and some to the bottom. This allows me more freedom to arrange the birds more creatively.

Here's the finished flimsy, "A Spring of Teals." It's 46-1/2" wide by 60-1/2" tall. It has birds that are really big, and really tall. It has birds with wide breasts and different sized beaks. I wanted to show that my birds are very customizable, fun and forgiving!

Cherie sent me four yards of this fabric last year, and I think it will be perfect for the backing.

Spring Birds 2

I sewed the top two rows together and rearranged some of the birds, but I wasn't really happy with it.

I moved the blocks to the design wall and rearranged them some more. What bothered me about the arrangement above is that all the blocks with prints were clustered together at the bottom of the quilt. Not working! And in this quilt, the Patriots block seemed out of place.

I rearranged the blocks and the rows and I like this. I set down the printed fabric along the edges so I would know where the edges are and decided I liked it a lot. I will likely use it as a border.
