That Was Quick!

I brought the little Scrap Slab Quilt (henceforth to be called "Arrowheads") I made to Janet-Lee to be quilted. "This is darling," she said, holding it up. "Oh heck, I can do this right now."

"Really? Are you sure" I asked?

It was interesting to watch her get it all set up. She picked the thread color (which I always let her do), and then we picked a quilting design.

This is the back of the quilt, showing the quilting pattern.
Usually when I have a quilt that's all straight lines, I like the quilting design to have a lot of curves.

I found it interesting that the computer knew exactly where it was at all times, and the areas that had been stitched were a different color on the display than what was left to do.

Once it was all set up, the computer driven machine did its thing.

All told, it took less than an hour.

It's funny, because when I designed this little quilt, I set it up so the colored triangles pointed to the right, with the orange row across the top, but when Janet-Lee set it up, she turned the quilt on its side, like this.

Either way is fine, of course, but it's always interesting to see my work through somebody else's eyes.

If you would like to make a scrap slabs quilt of your own, you can get my tutorial here, at my Etsy shop. It's an instant download, so you can get started right away.

Flock of Fancy Quilting Details

Check out all this delicious yummy quilting Chris did on the Flock of Fancy (Birds quilt.)

I love the way the feathers and swirls complement the negative spaces around the birds.

I've sewn the binding on the back of the quilt, now I will hand sew it down on the front.

Somebody wanted to know how I ship my quilts. When I ship my quilts anywhere I use USPS Priority Mail. The quilts I exhibit in shows are all appraised and insured on a separate rider of my homeowner's insurance policy. I'll have this quilt appraised as soon as it's finished.

Anita (my son's MIL) asked about a hanging sleeve. I've answered her separately, but here's a photo of the back of the Black and White Crayons that shows the signature panel as well as the hanging sleeve on the back.

And as long as I am answering questions, if anybody wants to know WHY I made a the "Too Much Chicken" quilt, please read this post. It's a funny story.

You really didn't think I was going to show you the whole quilt, did you?

No Longer Paranoid, But...

I outline quilted the letters on Tonya's quilt, then tried doing some parallel lines all around the border, but I don't like them, and have already ripped them out. I have another idea in mind.

I'm thinking the pink will be the binding.

More on the Doll Swap Quilt

I've finished the selvage quilt for Doll Quilt Swap 7. I quilted it a lot more closely than I have ever quilted anything else. Which is a big deal considering the "throat" on this sewing machine is about 5-1/2". There's not a lot of space to maneuver anything around.

I'm not going to post a picture of the finished quilt until September, when I ship the quilt to its new home, but I did take a picture of myself holding it.
This looks very easy, but it's not. I'm standing on a small stool, and I can't use a flash. The quilt is really too big to hold with one hand. You do get a pretty good view of my sewing studio.
