Green Birds

These are the birds with green backgrounds that I have been making lately. This one was from the backing of the Little Blocks quilt.

This is the last one using that backing fabric.

.
Here's a new bird.
.
I'm not gung-ho about making the birds with multiple backgrounds, so most of these have been using fabrics I already cut.
.
I thought I needed a long legged bird so I made this guy.
.
And I wanted a yellow bird, so I cooked this guy up with stuff from my stash I had forgotten I even had! (Oops.)

And THIS guy, well, there's a weirdo in every bunch. Catbird??

I've worked out how big this quilt should be and have begun arranging the birds. This is by no means final. This is the place where I start playing. I have to decide if I like the arrangement of not only the birds, but the background greens. As usual, I can't have too much of the same in one spot, and I don't want too many birds facing one direction. And if I have enough birds, and if I'm happy with the ones I do have, do I want to fill the empty spaces with patchwork blocks, or smaller birds? I am currently too tired to even tackle that problem, so I will figure it out later.

Thanks for all the suggestions about itch relief! The swelling has gone down significantly on both wrists, and only the bites on my right wrist are still bothering me, but nowhere near as much as they were.

If you want to make your own birds, you can get my tutorial here, at my Etsy shop. Or you can take a class with me at the Night Owl Quilting Studio in Goffstown NH. See the box on the sidebar at right for details!

  1. That blue bird is lovely, all blue and then the red-orange bill!! The yellow and black bird with the night designs on his wing! The cat wing bird surely wouldn't harm the birds... I love to see them all!
