I turned on the hot water in the shower yesterday and black water came out. It ran clean after a few minutes, but when I looked at the water heater later it was definitely tilted. Turns out it's leaking and the water had damaged the floor underneath so it was no longer stable.

"I have to go get some stuff, and then I'll have to drain the old tank before I can remove it, but it shouldn't take more than a couple hours or so."
It's not quite 3 PM as I write this and the job is done. I cannot tell you how thrilled I am.
Oh, holy green papers :(
ReplyDeleteBummer....
ReplyDeleteSorry - but glad the new one can be installed quickly.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I know how that feels.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it terrific to find a helpful trades person who doesn't charge the earth!

It's not often that you can have a water heater fail and be replaced in the same day. You are pretty darned lucky. Rain today...sun tomorrow!

Oh yeah, can't do much in a house without a water heater. Most plumbers treat replacements like an emergency, so same day.
ReplyDeleteDealing with professionals is usually the best way.
ReplyDeleteIs this repairman a plumber, etc? I'd definitely keep his name/number for future needs and recommend him to everybody! We had to have the dang electric furnace/heat pump thing worked on again this past week.... and since it's an oddity in our neighborhood (versus gas/l.p. furnaces) it was a challenge even to find someone to fix it!
ReplyDeleteYou are very fortunate- mine direct vents outside as we got rid of the chimney and only one or two manufacturers make them and they are $$ and have to be ordered.
