Young British designer Sarah Dickins has designed a sewing machine to encourage "making." This machine is just a prototype, it isn't in production, but it's quite the most elegant sewing machine I have ever seen. This machine has been shortlisted for

How clever. Smart lady. I like the idea of just pressing on the base instead of a foot pedal. Wonder how heavy it will be? Thanks for sharing.

I am impressed that the inventor seriously thought through the problems she saw with sewing. After mulling over this new machine design for several days, I have a question. How do you press on the base of the machine to make it sew and also manage the fabric with your hands? If you are pushing on the base, what is guiding the fabric through the presser foot and feed dogs? It is a beautiful design, though.
