Contrary

Last night I made the numbers 2-0-1-7 for the year and then sewed them together, then sewed my surname together. Tonight I'll finish the rest of the name panel, and assemble the backing for the Colorado quilt.

Oh, you are looking at the back of these panels. And yes, the back of every quilt I make looks just like these - neat, threads trimmed, pressed, and flat.

Super name colours. When my Mum did her sewing, it was also just as neat, and I still have a tablecloth that she would have embroidered before 1937, the threads are a little worn, but, again, front and back are equally neat. The barn quilt, I truly hope it will be as loved for as many years as my tablecloth.

Yes, I still remember my grandmother's admonition that the back of my embroidery should look just as good as the front. :-) My sewing machine has a thread cutter and that goes a long way towards neat backs but my quilt backs still don't look as good as yours.

Pat's grandmother and my grandmother must have been twins separated at birth - If I heard that admonition once, I heard it 1,000 (or more) times! BUT--Tidy quilt top backs absolutely make for cleaner looking finished quilts AND happy long arm or otherwise quilters.
