Dark Diamonds

You all see quilts that I make, and it's easy to think that ideas I have always work out, that I get from point "A" to point "B" in a very direct way.

Not always. Regular readers know that. So it will be with this idea, which I haven't totally worked out yet, but I know there's a good quilt in here somewhere. I just haven't found it yet.

I used big diamonds like this in a quilt I made for my niece, Diamond Jubilee. I wondered what a dark version of that quilt would look like, so now is my chance.

Here I've arranged the big diamonds.

These are the bright colors I have chosen for the vertical rows of diamonds in the quilt.

Hmm. This isn't quite the effect I had in my head.

Yeah, this isn't working.

I think these four patch diamonds are the problem. If I am going to flip the values on the quilt, the line of diamonds has to be dark, not light.

I think.

We'll see.

The first picture had mum thinking. You start with dark prints and then change prints as you go, picking up on a major color from one set of blocks to the next. Progressively getting lighter and lighter.

Or a rainbow type of effect. What ever you choose to do, it will work out and please you. That is what is important, that you like it.

I am not sure about those small ones, they seem to dominate the whole quilt. Is it the colour? I know that I do not always get things out properly the first time, but have assumed that you and others do, but I know from your blog you do a lot of re-arranging, ( and I so enjoy that process) until you are totally happy with the layout. This will also be just as you want it to be, at the end. Beauty diamonds.

I'm not sure if you're a brilliant designer, a glutton for punishment, or both! :) Love your work.
