O&P Rail Fence Layout Options

While my nephew has indicated which layout he prefers, I am not quite sure.

This is the one my nephew likes.

This is a layout I like very much.

Here it is from the other side.

No matter which layout I choose, the exact placement of the blocks hasn't been decided. I've only made 20 of the 30 blocks the quilt needs. The last 10 will be made because I need a block to fit in a particular space. So I'll figure out which layout I really like, then place the blocks where I think they'll look good, then I'll make blocks specifically to fill in the spaces I have left.

Random is a place to start, but I don't ever do anything completely randomly.

Well, I think if you invited nephew to play with the blocks, his choice wins 'cos it's his quilt.

I am with your nephew on that one. The wavy one would be to much movement with those strong colors for me.

I would go with the one your nephew likes. It is going to be his quilt.

I think your nephew should decide as well! The colors are fabulous...it's going to be a great quilt no matter what the layout!

I prefer the top layout and since you asked your nephew for his opinion and it will be his quilt, I think that is the layout to be used.

Go with his preference and use those last 10 blocks to make it sing for you.

Love the nephew's layout....makes me smile with all those wonky "bulls eyes".

I take my cue from Kaffe Fassett and give vibrating colors the simplest of patterns. Your nephew's idea is moving in the right direction, I think.

You asked his preference, and he told you. He does tend to know exactly what he wants. He's like his mother and his aunt in that way. lol

PS Mom likes the top one (PlusOne's) as well. They're not related.
