Almost!!!

This was the new sewing studio about 9:30 yesterday morning. I had to do something in the sewing studio, so I started putting my fabric in the bookcase. Then the ISP guy came to connect my TVs and internet. The modem is going in the studio, so I moved into the bedroom and put away all my clothes while he worked.

After he left, I continued working on the studio and tonight it looks like this.

The big pieces are in place, but I still have to work on a lot of the details. And I can't really sew until I get a big plastic mat for under my chair. The carpet is so soft and plush I can't roll the chair around. But that's a task for later.

The move went exceptionally well. I was literally all packed. It took the movers less than 90 minutes to load all my belongings into their truck, fifteen minutes to drive to the new place, and two hours to unload everything and place all the furniture.  To say I was pleased is an understatement. I was positively overjoyed.

I still have my kitchen, dining room and bathroom to unpack and organize. I did hang one quilt,
which visitors see when they enter. (this photo was taken from the bedroom.)

Here are another couple of views of the studio space. It's quite lovely in that I have room to move around.
The design wall will be to the left of my stash. It will be about 64" wide. I also haven't hung up any of my tools and rulers yet.

It's hard to see in this photo, but my small cutting table is opposite my sewing machine, and the small ironing table makes the bottom of a U-shaped workspace.

When everything is in place, there should also be enough floor space in case I need to lay anything out, and a comfy chair for either sitting and reading, or contemplating.  As you can see there's a nice big TV so I can watch the tennis. I bought a second kitty condo for Millie so she can be with me when I am working. She can watch the bird, squirrel, chipmunk and wild turkeys that cavort in the woods behind the house.  I have a folding screen to block any direct sunlight onto my stash or to block the glare, if needed, as the room faces south. The light, even at night, is much better than in my previous studio, and I know I will enjoy working in this room.

It's almost perfect, but not quite!

Lynne - I'm thrilled to hear that the move went smoothly. You'd done so much preparation that it would have been very bad luck indeed to have encountered problems.

The new room looks tremendous - although I'm not too sure about the merits of using the floor to lay out works in progress. Surely attempting that will only bring a certain little black and white lady out to play?

What a beautiful large space. All the natural light with large window and outdoor views make me envious. It was worth all the work of packing and moving.

looks fantastic! having a wonderful space to sew and create is great, isn't it? I'm glad you'll be able to block the sun- I was worried about your southern exposure- but obviously, you have it all under control!

This looks like a great place to work and I'm more than a little envious of all the natural light.

I'm also envious that Millie joins you while you are sewing. Jack has a bed in my sewing room but I guess he doesn't like the sound of the sewing machine because when I turn it on, he gets up and leaves the room. :( Actually, the foot pedal took a streak of squeaking last year and he's been that way ever since.

I noticed you have a lot of shelves that run the length of the room and are way up high. Any plans for those?

Instead of a plastic mat for your rolling chair, perhaps a cut to size section of "plywood" or masonite or fiberboard (less likely to sink into the carpet where the wheels rest) . . .

I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU and your new place!!!

Concatulations on a successful move. Interesting that you have interior windows from the sewing room that looks into another room.

You have a quilt hung it is home and it is yours!

I'm SO envious of your great dedicated sewing space AND your fabric stash!!! I went to the Des Moines AQS show yesterday and admired your quilt up close and personal!! It was really fun to see it 'in person'. Thought there were too many un-fabric vendors at the show this year (even some of the fabric booths didn't have much fabric??) like lotions, clothes and steam irons and mops!! Interesting.

Just a second to quiltdivajulia's comment. Having tried a plastic mat over carpet, I can agree that a hard surface will work better. They make a hard plastic mat but I found it very pricey.
You are amazing to have just moved and still have accomplished so much.Bravo!

Congratulations on your quick turnaround with your move.. I'm sure you will tweak a few along the way but the light will be a joy to work in.

Many years of joy and creativity in your new home.

Glad to read that the move went fast and smoothly. It won't take you too long to unbox the rest of the house. But, regular breaks in the studio will work wonders while you try to think of what to put where in the other rooms! Far more fun!

Sounds like Millie and you will be very happy in your new space. Keep the kitty happy and everything just falls into place.
