Laughing in the Sun

This is my wonderful son with the Laughing Out Loud quilt top. As you can see it was sunny and bright out, making it hard for me to frame the quilt (and my son) properly. This is for all of you who asked to see the entire quilt. It was a breezy day, and he was trying to keep the quilt from blowing away while he admired it. The color is very close to real life in the second photo, and you can click either photo to enlarge and get all the detail. I haven't compressed either one.
I want to thank all the wonderful women who left very thoughtful comments on yesterday's post. I really appreciate it. You ladies make up the best quilt guild anybody could ask for!

I will definitely be using the sashing fabric as an inner border. I liked Mimi's suggestion about using the jewel tones as the borders. I agree with Wanda and others who felt I needed three rows of strips. Those three rows of strips will have to be very carefully chosen and precisely placed. I am also thinking I might use the sashing fabric as the binding too.

Today, though, I've got catch up on housekeeping.

Oh wow!
When clicking on that second photo I realized that your Laughing Out Loud quilt is channeling the 60's artist Peter Max.
Love and peace, man.

It is good to see the whole quilt laid out. I was having a hard time picturing what to do for borders just seeing the corner of the quilt. After seeing it all laid out it is easier for me to picture quilt borders. I like the idea of black and white print for the inner border and two borders of jewel tones. Great quilt!

This is gorgeous! When I first saw it, I thought it looked like it was inspired by Gwen and Freddy, and then I read the post below it. Very well done, and I like the idea of using the sashing fabric as an inner border.

P.S. Came here from your Darling Millie blog - Mickey's Musings referred us to the tutorial there, and I think it's one of the best quilting tutorials I've ever seen.

Now I would approach the border exactly the opposite way, random piecing of colored strips falling where they may, and only changing them if 2 too similar ended up next to each other. I guess its a good thing we all think differently or it might be a boring world.

You've got a good-looking son and a beautiful quilt! I like the idea of the b&w inner strip and then the scrap strips in the jewel tones. That will really set off your quilt.
Housework?? Ugh!
